Illegal Dumping
Trash, construction debris, and abandoned vehicles dumped on Montura roadsides and vacant lots — a community health, safety, and property-value crisis.
Problem Overview
Illegal dumping has become one of the most visible quality-of-life problems in Montura. Mattresses, appliances, construction debris, household trash, and even abandoned vehicles end up on vacant lots, dead-end roads, and drainage canal banks. Material in or near canals blocks drainage, contaminates groundwater, and breeds mosquitoes, rats, and snakes. Dumping on private lots saddles innocent owners with cleanup costs.
Why It Matters
Every illegal dump site lowers nearby property values, attracts more dumping, threatens the aquifer we all drink from, and signals that nobody is watching. Reporting works — but only if residents know who to call and document what they see. The Hendry County Sheriff's Office investigates and prosecutes dumping cases; the Central County Water District handles dumping in or near canals and drainage right-of-way.
What Residents Can Do
- Report every dump site with photos, GPS coordinates, and date
- If you see active dumping, call 911 and record the license plate
- Never confront dumpers directly — get plate, vehicle description, and direction of travel
- Adopt a road segment and walk it monthly
- Use the reporting form below to alert the coalition so we can track hot spots
Report a Dump Site to the Coalition
This alerts the Montura Civic Coalition so we can track hot spots and coordinate cleanups. It does not replace a report to the Sheriff's Office or CCWD — please file those as well for enforcement.
