I Just Moved Here — FAQ

The questions every new Montura resident asks first.

Welcome to Montura. Rural Hendry County works a little differently than a subdivision — permits, utilities, mail, and even your driveway have rules you need to know. Here are the basics.

Driveway / Culvert Permits

Driveway / Culvert Permits

Any new driveway or culvert connecting to a county road requires a permit from the Central County Water District (CCWD) — 475 S Cabbage Palm St, Clewiston, FL 33440 — (863) 983-5797. Hours: Monday–Thursday 7 AM–5 PM; Friday–Sunday closed. Apply before you dig.

Living in an RV While You Build

Living in an RV While You Build

Hendry County allows temporary RV occupancy on your lot during active construction with a Temporary Use Permit tied to an active building permit. You'll need septic or an approved holding-tank arrangement and a power drop. The permit is time-limited and renewable while the build is in progress.

Building & Land Clearing Permits

Building & Land Clearing Permits

New construction, additions, re-roofs, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and land clearing permits come from Hendry County Zoning & Planning offices in LaBelle and Clewiston. Always check before bringing in heavy equipment — fines are steep.

ATVs, Dirt Bikes & Side-by-Sides

A quick note for new residents and visiting family: ATVs, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides are not street legal on any public road in Hendry County, including the dirt and limerock roads through Montura. Riding on land you do not own also requires the landowner's written permission — that includes vacant lots, ranch land, and the canal banks maintained by the Central County Water District. The canal banks are the most sensitive area — repeated riding causes erosion and shoulder collapse, and repairs are funded by every property owner in the district. Keeping riders off the banks protects both the drainage system and prevents the massive flooding it causes. That said, we are actively trying to find a solution since it is a great amenity and there might be future riding in the reservoir if the funds for fencing and security allows it, or designated riding areas such as perimeter road and designated lots. The coalition is working with CCWD, the Sheriff's Office, and neighboring landowners on long-term options such as designated riding areas and sanctioned community events. Until then, please ride only on property you own or have permission to use, stay off the canal banks, and share these guidelines with family and friends who visit.
